Sarah Montalvo De Luca

Sarah Montalvo De Luca was a classically trained soprano at Juilliard School and a member of the friend group that included Travis Yoon, Brooke Kim, Dylan Abrams, Gavin Worth, and Aditi Sharma. She lived in the upper duplex at The 146th Street House with Brooke and Aditi.

Early Life and Background

Sarah grew up in Tampa, Florida, with family roots in Ybor City. She had one Cuban parent and one Italian parent. Her legal surname used both family names: Montalvo De Luca. Her family’s connection to Ybor grounded both sides of her heritage without requiring a single inherited occupation or a frozen version of the neighborhood.

She grew up with four siblings. Her mother was a homemaker, and her father worked as a longshoreman at Port Tampa Bay.

Education and Musical Direction

Sarah was part of the 2004 birth cohort within her Juilliard community. Her formal program was classical voice. She was a lyric soprano whose voice was light and airy without being slight: clear and floating at the top, supported by enough breath and resonance to carry without sounding pushed. She also loved musical theatre and hoped to transition toward it without treating classical training as something she had outgrown.

Personality

Sarah tended to be quietly observant until she felt fully at home. Her openness was real, but belonging was what let her take up more room. Once she was comfortable, she hummed under her breath, became physically affectionate, and let her teasing turn sharper. Her ease with affection and teasing grew out of her own Cuban and Italian family textures rather than serving as a shorthand for either background.

Habits and Mannerisms

Sarah twirled her hair when she was thinking. When she listened closely, she gave someone enough stillness to show that she was fully present, leaned in when she was invested, and kept a small tactile thread going through her hair, hands, or jewelry. Her affection was similarly varied: she hugged, linked arms, and reached casually for the hair, shoulders, or hands of people who welcomed the contact.

She loved Bath & Body Works and rotated fragrances rather than keeping one fixed signature scent. Gingham Gorgeous was her most familiar everyday choice; Warm Vanilla Sugar belonged to cooking and quiet apartment time, while Into the Night came out for recitals, events, dates, and other nights when she wanted more drama.

Physical Characteristics

Sarah stood approximately five feet two. Her build was softly curving and expressive, giving her a gentle presence without making her seem physically insubstantial. Her complexion was medium with warm olive undertones. Her face was softly rounded and open, with hazel eyes, full dark brows, and a big, easy smile that brought out her dimples. Her nearly black hair fell almost to her waist: thick, predominantly wavy, with loose curls worked through the length rather than a tight curl pattern. For class and rehearsal, she often gathered it into a thick braid to keep it out of the way; she wore it down for events and other occasions when she wanted the full effect.

Personal Style and Presentation

Sarah favored feminine, flowing clothes: pieces that moved with her rather than sitting rigidly on her. She wore wide-leg trousers, blouses, and light layers as well, but dresses and skirts were her real default joy rather than clothes she saved only for special occasions. Color was part of her everyday pleasure, while neutral pieces gave her a performance-ready base. In ordinary life, she enjoyed earrings, layered necklaces, and rings in a deliberate mix of gold and silver; for performances, she pared her accessories back so they would not interfere with the work. Her shoes rotated with the day and outfit: boots, low heels, ballet flats, and sneakers all belonged. She swapped bags with her outfits, but her daily bag was a cognac Il Bisonte Italian-leather gift from her grandmother.

Dialogue and Voice

Sarah’s teasing was sweetly deadpan and deceptively gentle. She could make a sharp observation sound almost tender, leaving the other person to realize a beat later that the line had landed. Once she had the floor, she spoke animatedly and quickly; quiet observation was her way into a room, not the whole of her. Sadness tended to turn her quiet, while anger broke that containment and became visible.

Family and Core Relationships

Dylan Abrams

Main article: Sarah Montalvo De Luca and Dylan Abrams

Sarah and Dylan Abrams first met on an admitted-students tour before their freshman year at Juilliard. They began dating at Juilliard. Dylan had asked Sarah out directly; she made him wait a beat before she said yes. Their disagreements were usually low-stakes and playful—arguments over dinner, plans, or small preferences that functioned as an easy shared rhythm rather than serious conflict. Both could miss each other in the ways young people sometimes did, but they were generally good at recognizing when the joke needed to stop. Dylan was especially quick to notice when Sarah needed him to be serious.

Personal Life

Residences

At The 146th Street House, Sarah shared the upper duplex with Brooke Kim and Aditi Sharma.

Social Life and Community

Sarah’s closest Juilliard community included Travis, Brooke, Dylan, Gavin, and Aditi.

Sarah and Aditi first connected through the classical voice program. Their friendship widened to include Brooke, and the three women came to regard one another as soul sisters while sharing the upper duplex. Near the end of summer 2024, Sarah joined those roommates, Dylan, Gavin, and Travis for a week at a Cape Cod house arranged by Aditi’s father.

During Travis’s leukemia treatment, Sarah sent him a care package and a note telling him the group missed exchanging looks with him in theory class. She was with Aditi, Brooke, Dylan, and Gavin when Aditi relayed Eun-joo’s call about Travis’s death in August 2025. Sarah traveled with the group to his funeral in Evanston and took part in the later New York City memorial.

Sarah teased Dylan about how many shoes he owned, despite having a formidable rotation herself. Dylan’s response was always some version of “takes one to know one.”

In unstructured apartment time, Sarah practiced, cooked with people, or made herself comfortable in the shared space. She genuinely loved to cook and approached it with curiosity, learning anything that caught her interest rather than limiting herself to family dishes. She freestyled, tasted constantly, and could turn a regular dinner into an occasion. She sang while she cooked, letting music live in the room without treating it as a performance.
